For my sons 1st Birthday party I decided to do something classic. His bedroom is decorated in a sports theme and my husband and I have always been actively involved in sports and since he was frankly too young to make a decision, I chose the All Star Sports Party. To see the items purchased for this party, see the list at the end of the blog!

I have to say, this was one of my favorite parties to plan, I actually had to enlist the help of my husband on this one because I ended up going way over my head with my ideas. For some reason I thought creating basketball hoops with actual basketballs was something that was in my craft wheelhouse. Not quite… 😊
All Star Sports Theme
For the All Star theme, the ideas were simple. I wanted to include Baseball, Basketball, Football and Soccer. I wanted to also add Hockey, because we are HUGE hockey fans, but that will probably be a party on its own in the future 😊.
All Star Sports Centerpieces
I went with the same layout as my Woodland Fairy Themed Party. I had the venue move the tables so that there were three long rectangular tables.
Baseball Centerpieces
The first table I created was my “Baseball” table. I created these baseball trophy statues that were fun and easy to make. Okay, so my husband had to do some nailing and gluing here too, but I did the fun crafty stuff.
For these centerpieces, I did 4 “grand” centerpieces. I purchased the unfinished baseball bats from Hobby Lobby and stained them with wood stain to give them an authentic look. Then, I purchased some wrap tape for the base of the bats and wrapped the tape along the bottom.
I purchased wood boards as the base and some wood letters as well. We simply glued the baseball bats together (and nailed them) and then glued them with wood glue to the base. We stuck baseballs on the top of the bats which gave a nice added touch and pulled the centerpiece together. I painted the base and letters and glued them on as well. In between the grand centerpieces I just sprinkled some peanuts to give it the “game day vibe”.
Baseball Table Runners
I purchased the table runners on Etsy which were a red and white chevron pattern.
Basketball Centerpieces
For the middle table I chose the “Basketball” table. These were the centerpieces that needed a little extra reinforcement in order to stay standing during the whole party and not have a basketball land on someone’s cake 😊.
The basketball centerpieces were a bit challenging, but fun. The base was a thick wood board. The pole was a pvc pipe that I had spray painted black. On the top of the pole I glued a foam circle board.
The rim was also a foam ring. I wrapped orange masking tape all around the rim to give it the feel of a real rim.
I pinned some basketball net with long thin pins to stick right into the foam ring. Then I pinned the foam ring to the foam circle board.
The basketballs were then glued with some strong gorilla glue.
For the fillers in between the grand centerpieces, I added some pom poms to give it that real “game day” feel.
The tablecloth was a basketball court tablecloth which was the perfect base for that table.
Everything was reinforced and glued to make sure that nothing fell over. Transportation was not easy with these but I fell in love with these centerpieces and HAD to make them work!
Football Centerpieces
Moving on to the “Football” table which was much easier but still just as fun. I went with footballs that were mounted on orange rubber football kicking tees for the main centerpieces for this table. In between the main centerpieces, I added some orange cones. The tablecloth was a football field tablecloth and again provided the perfect base for this table.
Football Table Runner
For the table runner, I purchased these grass table runners and cut them to the desired length. Make sure you measure how much you will need to cover the majority of the table length.
Soccer Centerpieces
In the other room were my “Soccer” tables. The additional room has all tall round table tops. For these centerpieces I decided to place soccer balls on candle stick holders that I purchased from the Dollar Tree. I spray painted them black to make them the perfect stand for the soccer balls. For the table runner, I went with a black and white striped pattern and then added a patch of grass to tie in the soccer table theme.
Dessert Table
As always there is the dessert table. I chose to go with a concession theme dessert table, so I included a Concession banner along the front of the table. I had my cake lady create the cake and cupcakes to match and my wonderful mother made her signature sugar cookies which are out of this world!
Favors
For the favors, I ended up purchasing some sports water bottles from Oriental trading and I just added some sports chocolate candy and a thank you sign to complete these sports favors.
Guest Table to Autograph the Football
I also added a table where his guests could sign a football for a keepsake for his first birthday. They could also “put on their game face” with the face paint markers to really get in the mood for the All Star Sports Birthday Party.
Party Extras
In addition to all of the decorations, the guests enjoyed themselves with bowling, food and beverages.
I also had clusters of balloons, a Happy Birthday Banner, some sports character cut outs and a special outfit for the birthday boy.
My son also wore a milestone baseball hat, a raglan tee with our last name on it and he also had a baseball smash cake and sports bib to celebrate his special “Happy Birthday” moment.
So, another party in the books and another great time shared by all!
