Incorporating exercise into your everyday life is essential to living a happy, healthy life. Some enjoy going to the gym, others like outdoor sports and others would rather work out in the comfort of their own home.

Get Your Home Gym Equipment Here!
I have a gym membership, because I like the company of others and the workout tips I get from classes at the gym. I also have a home gym for the mornings that I want to get up super early to workout, or for the times when I just don’t feel like going anywhere. It also cuts out about 45 minutes of travel when I work out in my home gym, so it’s nice when I don’t have the extra time. Whatever you choose to do, at the very least you should have some workout equipment at your house.
Below is a list of equipment you need to have for a complete home gym. I will include bonus items for those of you who only choose to have a home gym.
To see a list of equipment you need for a home gym, see the list at the end of the blog!
1. Weights
The first piece of equipment you need for a home gym is a set of weights. I own a weight set that includes 5lbs up to 15lbs. You can also purchase a rack to hold your weights as well.
2. Balance Ball
There are so many workouts you can do with the balance ball. Whether it be maintaining balance while standing on the ball and lifting weights, using it for crunches, or cardio steps, this ball is versatile and another must have item for your home gym.
3. Exercise Ball
The exercise ball is yet another versatile piece of equipment that every home gym should include. The exercise ball is great for doing a variety of ab workouts. You can also do lifting and squatting exercises as well. At the end of my workout, I also use this to stretch out my abs and back.
4. Resistance Bands
Resistance bands are great to have because you can control how much or how little resistance you want. You can do virtually any workout that you would use dumb bells. Hook them up to a door, wrap them around a pole, or simply grab them and get started.
5. Yoga Mat
Whether or not you are purchasing equipment for a home gym, a yoga mat is a must have. I prefer bringing my yoga mat with me to the gym rather than using the mats there because I know that it is clean and I am the only one using it. If you do not practice yoga, then it’s great for doing crunches, stretches and/or any other exercise.
6. Medicine Ball
Medicine balls are great for added intensity when squatting, doing sit ups, arm exercises etc. They can be used for over head slams, shoulder presses, tricep extensions and leg exercises. This is a great website if you are looking for different exercises you can do with a medicine ball.
7. Jump Rope
You can purchase just a regular old school jump rope or you can purchase one of these smart jump ropes! They are great for tracking your workout. You would be surprised how many calories you can burn from jumping rope!
8. Yoga Block
Not everyone needs a yoga block but if you are practicing yoga, these are great to have, especially if you are a novice or just not flexible. They are great stepping stones to get you to the next level in yoga!
9. Chin Up Bar
Chin ups have always been challenging for me, but I love being able to see my progress. For a little added support, use a stool or something else that you can help support you when you are first starting out.
10. Weight Bench
This weight bench is awesome because it is not just a weight bench. You can use this one for abs, back workouts, push-ups, etc. I LOVE this weight bench!
11. Floor Mats
I definitely would not go cheap with floor mats. They are supporting heavy equipment and really do protect any flooring you plan on putting your gym on.
Purchasing items for a home gym can be expensive but I feel it is well worth the cost. The above items are great to have, but if you are really looking to step up your home gym, adding these bonus items will really complete an ultimate home gym!
12. Treadmill
I have owned a treadmill for over 15 years and unlike most, I really do use it! It is great for when you can’t get outside to run because of weather or time. I don’t like going for runs at night so my treadmill is a great option. The weather here is also usually cold, windy or rainy so I typically stick to running on the treadmill. You can either go for long runs or for HIIT training. Either way, a must have for your ultimate home gym!
13. Elliptical
Elliptical’s are great if you either don’t like running or have bad knees. It is a great workout with less impact than running and definitely better on your joints.
14. Spin Bike
First of all, spinning is one of my favorite workouts. It gives me an adrenaline rush that I cannot even explain! I have all three pieces of equipment but I usually use my spin bike and treadmill the most. Spinning is also great for early morning when you just want to close your eyes in get lost in your ride. I have this spin bike and it is great, that is if you cannot swing a Peleton of course :).
15. Wall Mirror
A wall mirror is a must so that you can make sure you are always using the correct form. I also use the mirror so that I can see my progress and be able to see what muscle groups I am working. Your home gym is simply not complete without a wall mirror.
This is all the equipment you need for a home gym! The up front cost may seem like a lot of money but you cannot put a price on your health and the convenience of having a home gym. You will never regret it!
