St. Patrick’ day is one of my favorite times of the year, not only because I am 75% Irish but because spring is near, the sun is shining and winter is almost behind us. I also love the vibe and energy of St. Patrick’s day and everything this holiday represents. If you know me, you know that I LOVE traditions especially holiday traditions. I love passing on these traditions to my kids and having them look forward to the fun things we do for each holiday and tradition.

1. Make Corned Beef and Cabbage
Every year we make sure to have the traditional corned beef and cabbage meal. There are many ways to cook corned beef, but we choose to boil the corned beef with carrots, cabbage and potatoes. The kids love this meal so much that we actually have this meal multiple times a year. I also let the kids have some Green River pop to add some extra fun 😊.
2. Get Green Shamrock Shakes
St. Patrick’s day is just not the same without getting some Shamrock shakes from Mc. Donald’s. They are a nice treat for the kids and they taste so delicious! We look forward to getting these every year in March when they come out!
3. Build a St. Patrick’s Day Trap
Every year I go to the craft store and the Dollar Tree and purchase some materials to build a St. Patrick’s day trap in hopes of catching the leprechaun! The kids really get into it and it provides them a creative outlet at the same time. It really adds to the fun of believing in the leprechaun and getting them to think they may be able to actually catch him.
4. Order St. Patrick’s Day Outfits For the Kids
I always like to purchase some cute St. Patrick’s day outfits for the kids. I try to do my best to find them matching outfits or at the very least, outfits that coordinate. This makes for such a cute picture that we get to look back on every year.
5. Make Sandwiches With Green Bread
In the week leading up to St. Patrick’s day, I purchase green bread from our local bakery. You can also make your own green bread as well. I make my kid’s sandwich on green bread every day for the week of St. Patrick’s day. I also purchase green shamrock cookies and put those in the kids lunch as well.
6. Put Out St. Patrick’s Day Decorations
Holidays are not complete in our house without some St. Patrick’s day decorations. The Dollar Tree always has cheap decorations that are really cute for the house. I usually purchase a wreath for the front door, and some sparkly shamrocks for all the windows in the front of the house. I always have holiday themed towels in the kitchen and bathrooms as well.
7. Take the Kids To A St. Patrick’s Day Parade
We actually enjoy these parades so much we typically attend a couple every year. The kids really enjoy the parades, especially the candy they end up with at the conclusion of the parade!
8. Read a St. Patrick’s Day Story
To get the kids in the St. Patrick’s Day Spirit, we read this book to them every year. It is a tradition we started when the kids were very little and we still read it to this day.
9. Dye the Toilets Green and Flip Everything Upside Down
On St. Patrick’s day, the kids wake up and the first thing they do is go downstairs to check their trap to see if they caught the leprechaun. To add to the fun, we dye all the toilet bowls green and flip everything upside down to make it look like the little leprechaun was causing some mischief! I also leave small green trinkets behind in various places throughout the house and unroll all the toilet paper rolls, creating a fun mess in the bathrooms.
10. Leave Money/Change in Green Jars
I picked up these small green Shamrock jars and every year we leave them out for the leprechaun to leave behind some coins. They look forward to counting their money to see how much the leprechaun left behind.
11. Make a Green Breakfast for St. Patrick’s Day Morning
I like to change it up every year but I whatever I make, I make sure it’s green 😊. It is so easy to transform really any breakfast item by just adding in some green food coloring. I will either make green pancakes, green eggs, green donuts or lucky charms with green milk 😊.
