As you know by now, all of my parties whether big or small, always have to have a theme. For my daughters first birthday, I wanted to do something different. I had already done your “all-out” princess birthday for my first daughter so I obviously didn’t want to do that again, but I wanted something fun, frilly and over the top, so I decided on a Woodland Fairy Themed Party. Her favorite color is purple, 😊 so a purple Woodland Fairy Themed Party it was.

Fairy Theme
When I think of a Woodland Fairy Themed Party, I think of tree stumps, grass, mushrooms, twinkle lights, wings, glitter, things that glow, lanterns and flowers. I think mystical. Like a dark foggy forest with a twinkle here and there. I see some green, some purple and some pink.
In order to achieve the Woodland Fairy Themed Party, there needed to be a lot of layers. I wanted to be able to achieve the dreamlike feel as if you were really in this forest of fairies.
I followed my party checklist, from 10 Steps to Planning the Perfect Party, and here is what I came up with…
Fairy Tree Centerpieces
For the tables, I had three long rectangular tables. Each of my tables had a different aspect of the woodland fairy theme. For the first table, I had 4 big trees for my “grand” centerpieces with little plum purple flowers embedded in the trees.
You can purchase just the manzanita branches and put them in your own clay pots and it’s a bit cheaper. You will probably just want to get some great stuff to keep them secure. I also add some rocks to the bottom to weigh them down before I put in the great stuff.
I added hanging votive holders with some flameless votives to give the room the glow I was looking for. Then, I spray painted the base of the trees in a silver to give it that extra sparkle. In between each of the tree centerpieces, I placed flower bouquets. The vases were a clear purple and were filled with purple glow sticks to give them that glow I wanted.
Table Runners For Fairy Tree Table
The runner on the table was a plum flower applique runner which provided a good base for all the flowers and trees. To keep the cost down, I purchased this tablecloth for my dessert table, but since it was over-sized, I just cut the runners out of the fabric and used the rest of the fabric for my dessert table.
DIY Fairy Centerpieces
The next table, which was the middle table, had my diy fairy centerpieces. These were by far my favorite centerpieces I have ever made. I purchased some sequin dress forms on stands from Hobby Lobby. They were the perfect base to make my fairies. I made sparkle purple tulle tutu skirts and placed them over the black sequence dresses. This gave the perfect poof I was looking for the fairy dress.
I then purchased butterfly wings at the Dollar Tree. These wings are super cheap and great for favors, decorations and centerpieces. I sprayed the wings with a glitter spray because there can never be enough glitter 😊. I ordered battery powered fairy lights and stuck the lights on with clear sticker dots.
Again, because of the length of the tables, I had four grand centerpieces on this table as well. In between the fairies, I had little purple bags that I decorated with butterflies, and inside the bags were the flameless votives.
Table Runners for DIY Fairy Table
I chose a lace runner for this table to offset the fancy fairies.
DIY Silhouette Fairy Centerpieces
The last table in the room were my DIY silhouette fairy vases. I LOVED these as well. The vases were from Hobby Lobby and the cut out fairies I ordered on Etsy.
I wanted to preserve the vases so I ended up gluing tissue paper that I sprayed with glitter. I used a glue gun to glue the fairies to the vases and then I just put flameless votives inside to give the fairies the silhouette appearance I was looking for.
Then, I just placed the vase on the tree stump and added fake flowers all around. If you have access to tree stumps, opt for getting your own. My husband actually sawed these stumps for the party and it was much cheaper.
For the top of the jar, I just bought wood slices from hobby lobby and glued on some green vines to give the silhouette vases the woodland look.
I purchased the mushrooms from a flea market which was a great find. This was a great addition to this table and really added to the woodland fairy themed party vibe.
Table Runner for DIY Silhouette Fairy Table
I chose a grass runner for this table for the woodland feel and I added some flowers sporadically throughout the grass runner.
Fairy Dessert Table
For the dessert table, I decided to cover the table with a flower applique tablecloth. I designed the cake and ordered it from my cake lady , who did a fantastic job 😊 I added some fairy elements and statues to make it seem realistic. As always, I had my cupcakes and cookies to match the theme. I even added another fairy centerpiece to tie into the rest of the party and add a little more flair to the dessert table.
Fairy Favors
For the favor table I added a glitter runner. Each guest got some fairy dust with a special fairy wand attached. I always like to have a favor sign, which I purchased on Etsy. For the favors, I purchased these glass viles from Amazon, and filled them with mixed white glitter and purple glitter from Hobby lobby. I purchased the wands and “fairy dust” signs from Etsy and just tied them around the vile with some white string for the completed favor.
Fairy Extras
The room would not be complete without some clusters of balloons, a Happy Birthday Banner and some light up lanterns. For the light up lanterns, I purchased some butterfly appliques and stuck them on so the lanterns were covered with butterflies. I also hung some wings in between the lanterns and staggered them to give it the 3D effect.
For this party, I actually took it a step further and added some up-lighting in hot pink and purple to really give it the effect I was looking for. Up-lighting can be a bit expensive but it really changes the mood and ambiance and really helped transform the space into something quite magical!
My daughter was adorned in a beautiful fairy dress from Etsy and she had her party hat and bib for the big “Happy Birthday” moment.
There was bowling, food and drinks for all to enjoy as well!
